"The ongoing pandemic-related lock-downs in Shanghai; the ongoing war in Ukraine; the blockage of the Suez Canal, in 2021; the earthquake in Fukushima, in 2011… Global supply chains appear to be ever more susceptible to various types of disruptions. (i) How can we have packed ports and ships waiting on the one side, and empty shelves on the other side? Who are the big winners and losers from this global supply chain disruption? (ii) Are Lean Operations, in their quest to eliminate inventory, responsible for these problems? (iii) By becoming globalized and very interconnected, have supply chains become more resilient or fragile? (iv) What should be done to get out of this crisis?"
