Speaker Mireia Giné
Mireia Giné is Associate Professor at the Financial Management Department of IESE. She has a BA in Economics and Master in Economics from Pompeu Fabra University. She received her doctorate from the University of Barcelona after several years at MIT and the University of Pennsylvania. Mireia specializes in corporate governance, executive compensation, mergers and acquisitions. Currently, she investigates how common ownership of institutional shareholders impacts the corporate decisions of companies in their portfolio. Her research has been published in the Journal of Finance, Review of Finance, Harvard Business Review among other academic journals, as well as in various media (Financial Times, The Economist, Bloomberg, BBC). She has received several international prizes such as the Brattle Prize and has presented her research at prestigious universities and congresses in finance (WFA, EFA, AFA, NBER, etc.). Prior to joining IESE, she worked for more than a decade at The Wharton School as director of Research at Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS), a global financial reference platform serving more than 450 academic and financial institutions. Mireia joined the start-up phase and currently she directs the group's international operations. Mireia has been a member of the Spanish pentathlon team.
Speaker Fiona May Fiona May commenced athletics at the age of 12 thanks to her Physical Education teacher and coach at her local secondary school in Derby, England. She first competed internationally at the age of 14 and in later years she won both European and World junior titles (1987 and 1988 respectively). She studied Economics and Business management administration graduating from Trinity and All Saints College, Leeds University in 1992. From 1994 until 2006 she has competed in 3 Olympic Games, numerous World, and European Championships winning 11 medals that include 3 world titles, 2 Olympic silver medals, and she still holds the Italian record for long jump. She was commentating for Sky Italy for the 2012 London Olympic Games and for Eurosport European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam 2016. In 2013 until 2017, she was part of the Executive Committee of the Italian Olympic Committee as the Athletes Representative. From 2014 until 2017 the newly elected President Tavecchio for the Italian FA, nominated Fiona to be head of the commission for integration. She toured around the country talking and educating the younger generation against racism and prejudice. She was also been part of a project called RETE!, working in partnership with the University Cattolica de Sacro Cuore and SPRAR ( an organization for refugees entering Italy). She had the opportunity to enter the Supervisory Board for Puma SE Germany and has fully emerged in the international corporate world, joining also the advisory board of Puma North America in December 2020.
