This talk explores how data-driven methods from operations management are transforming the design of experiential consumer journeys. Drawing on 3 years of experiments at the Van Gogh Museum, we show how big data analytics can reveal visitor behaviors and support improvements of the experience, from better layouts to more effective story-telling supported by digital tools. We are able to enhance engagement, reduce fatigue and control congestion. We envision the future of entertainment, retail, and education as being supported by big data analytics and AI.
